Sicilian Kan 6.f4 a6 7.Be3 b5 8.Be2 Bb7 [B49]-TWIC 966

More on Poland
The feature game was played in Legnica, Poland. Here is a bit more background on Poland.

Memorial Day, August 1
'Once a year on August 1st, the people of Warsaw pay hommage to the fallen heroes that fought for freedom in 1944 during the Warsaw Uprising. The biggest rebellion against German Nazi occupation during WWII cost over 200 000 lives and destruction of the capital.'

TWIC 966
GM Macieja entered a typical Kan ending and won a nice R-R ending in rd1 of the EICC.

Maevsky,N (2323) - Macieja,B (2600)

14th Euro Indiv 2013 Legnica POL (1.79), 05.05.2013

Position 1
The Fast...h5 Plan
The early advance of the h-pawn is a typical idea in the Kan. Black postpones normal development and leaves the king uncastled to grab  useful kingside space. Black gains the g4 outpost for ...Nf6-g4 and the possibility of ...h4--3 to harass the kingside.

11...h5

Position 2
R-R Endgame Phase
The rook ending is unbalanced and sharp. White has just attacked the a-pawn. What do you recommend for black?

Black to Play
32.Rh5
